Break Down:
Glaze materials included. General N95 mask provided. PSH 516 tiles provided. Some containers are available. 2-3 recipes will be made in class.
What to Bring (Optional but recommended): N100 mask if preferred, lidded containers, ^6 test tiles (if wanting to test on clay other than 516).

Important Notes for Participation:
- Ability to work with numbers (simple math)
- Can wear a mask/respirator for prolonged periods of time
- May be exposed to allergens such as copper and nickel oxide and alkaline
powders
- Expecting, pregnant or breastfeeding people are not recommended due to
possible exposure to chromium (VI)

Course Overview:

In this course, join Elise Chung (MSc Chemistry) in a study of beginner glaze
chemistry. Elise will touch on topics such as:
-Mixing safety
-Materials? What do they do?
-What do these numbers mean? Simple glaze recipes and how to read them
-Mixing and testing a simple glaze recipes
-Adjusting and testing a simple glaze recipe

Participants are also welcome to bring a recipe to try, with approval from Elise and Studio.

This incredibly intimate and informative class will help you understand the world of glaze chemistry. Elise, holding a high degree of knowledge in chemistry and ceramics exploration, will help break down numbers and concepts surrounding this process. Only hosting 6 students, each student will have their own materials, equipment, and tasks, allowing for a much more intimate and informative class setting. Students will be able to work closely with Elise throughout the 3 weeks, breaking down big questions and big responsibility involved in mixing these materials.

Each week will be an in depth lesson of material knowledge, reading, mixing, and making. Results will be shown weekly, and students will be able to take their glazes home after the session.
