This 3-week course explores handbuilding techniques alongside the use of coloured clay as a method of surface design. Students will be introduced to basic nerikomi processes, beginning with the creation of coloured clay using ceramic stains. Through experimentation, participants will develop pattern blocks and simple image systems. The course will then shift toward handbuilt forms, both coil and slab construction, where students will apply their coloured clay patterns as surface treatments. Emphasis will be placed on process, material understanding, and the relationship between structure and surface.
