FAQ

___

Curious about earthenware? Terra cotta? Does the beautiful red-orange hue have you mesmerized? Us too. Jump into the world of low fire clay, and see what it has to offer. A rare opportunity!

Learn how to approach earthenware with both handbuilding and wheel techniques, creating functional and/or sculptural pieces. Class will cover surface decoration and glazing techniques made for the low fire, using materials such as slips, underglaze, stroke and coat, oxides, as well as terra sigillata.

Beginners are welcome, but having some clay experience is recommended for ease of approach. Each week will focus on new making approaches, allowing you to explore both wheel and handbuilding while using earthenware. Whether you are a seasoned maker or brand new, there is space and skills for everyone to learn.

Earthenware, being a material so rooted to the history of ceramics and surface decoration, you will have the opportunity to explore all techniques that earthenware looks best in. Glazing earthenware is minimal, surface decoration is maximal. So, explore some techniques such as transfers, slip and underglaze painting, sgraffito, oxide painting, and so much more.

Pieces will be ready for pickup 2-3 weeks after the Workshop.
